The 16-year wait
PSYREN ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from December 2007 to November 2010 — 145 chapters across 16 volumes — and built a devoted following that asked for an anime for over a decade. It finally arrived on 5 October 2026, produced by Satelight and directed by Katsumi Ono, with Rikuya Yasuda as Ageha Yoshina and Mayuko Kazama as Sakurako Amamiya. Best of all for manga readers: the production has confirmed the anime will adapt the complete manga through its original ending, with creator Toshiaki Iwashiro supervising the scripts.
What is PSYREN about?
Ageha Yoshina is a confident high-schooler who solves other people's problems for a fee. One evening he finds a strange red phone card marked "Psyren" in a phone booth — and discovers his classmate Sakurako Amamiya carries the same card. When Sakurako disappears, Ageha calls the number and hears a single question: "Would you like to go to Psyren?" What follows is a deadly survival game in a ruined world stalked by monsters called Taboo, where the players fight using psychic powers known as PSI — and every trip raises the question of what Psyren really is.
